I am a very old guy, conservative, red-neck (know how to open a can of ass-whup if necessary), Christian/Daoist, BUT my wife and I have quite a community of highly professional gay friends (men and women) who don't demonstrate (don't want to), don't hate members of the opposite sex (don't want to) and don't act stupid (swishy men and hardcore butchy women--don't need to be that way). WE all love each other for the people we are and sometimes my wife and I are (proudly) the only non-gay couple at HUGE parties. These great people have intelligently carved out well balanced lifestyles for themselves and seem to be as embarrassed with the stupid element of homosexuals as the great mainstream Mormons we know are embarrassed by the polygamist minority that gives their strong family-based religion a bad name. I know a gay couple (men) one of which was an army ranger, served with distinction and behaved himself, as expected of any officer (gay or not), his partner was a distinguished music teacher in the public schools who reported another teacher for taking gay liberties with some of the students at the same middle school. So I say maybe if stupid, antisocial gays would shut up and attack issues with quiet dignity, some of the other red necks would understand,too. HEY I have worked in two different jobs where I was called in to the managers office because someone "gay" felt that I had offended them. Both times I had never even exchanged a word with the complainant....such things don't help out with a guy who is actually tolerant with anyone who behaves themselves in a social context. Who cares what you do on your personal time. Just keep it personal. Work intelligently for understanding. OK? PS OK I did vote against gay marriage but sharing insurance benefits and such is OK with me...I guess gay marriage could be OK too...gay couples have the right to be as miserable as the rest of us who commit to marriage. (HA)
