OK, here's the deal. The gays want super-equality. You want rights not even given to a man married to a woman. Have gay people ever considered just being gay, doing your thing, and shutting the fuck up? When you do the whole loud "I'm gay and I'm loud and proud and I'm going to shove it in your face till you accept me" thing, two things happen. ((( #1 ))), MOST OF SOCIETY ARE REPULSED. Some of you dance in the street in thongs. You have sex in the street in San Fran at the gay festival. You say inappropriate over-sexualized things to co-workers and bystanders. Because you live in a world that is over-sexualized and your identity revolves around your sexuality, you think everyone is like that or needs to be more like that. Just be normal and do what you want in your own bedroom like everyone else, and things will start going better for you. ((( #2 ))) YOU COME ACROSS AS NEEDY AND INSECURE. Let's face it, when you all get together and march and hold signs that say "I'm SO proud to be gay", it REEKS of you over-trying to convince yourselves. We all know there is shame involved in homosexuality- why was it hard for most of you to tell your parents? Because of the shame. The rest of us don't believe you're proud of it....period. But when you shout about how proud you are, it's like the insecure person in the office who is always trumpeting their achievements to anyone who will listen because they're insecure about their true ability and they're overcompensating and trying to cover their insecurity by boasting, etc.....EVERYONE sees through it and they appear MORE pathetic and insecure than if they just did their job and kept a low profile. The people who know what they're doing don't have to run their mouth about it. Those of us who have no shame about our sexuality don't have to run their mouths constantly about it. MAYBE you should stop bashing the rest of over the head with it!!

First gay divorce hits Texas court
By 365gay Newscenter Staff 01.23.2009 11:26am EST (Dallas, Texas) A Dallas man who married his longtime partner in Massachusetts is asking a Texas court to grant him a divorce. Send / ShareAdd CommentIt is believed to be the first time that a court in Texas has been asked to grant a divorce stemming from a same-sex marriage, although a court earlier refused to dissolve a civil union that had been obtained by another couple in Vermont. In that case, the judge cited the Texas constitution, which bans same-sex marriage. The men were married in 2006 in Cambridge, Mass. and then returned to Dallas. They split up last year and a court filing by one of the men this week cites “discord or conflict of personalities.” The man’s attorney, Peter Schulte, tells the Dallas News that he is uncertain how the court will rule. Attorney General Greg Abbott told The News that he will ” defend Texas law – and the will of the people.” “In the State of Texas, marriage is – and has always been – a union between one man and one woman. To prevent other states from imposing their values on this state, Texas voters overwhelmingly approved a Constitutional amendment specifically defining marriage as a union of one man and one woman,” he said in a written statement. “Because the parties’ Massachusetts-issued arrangement is not a marriage under Texas law, they are asking a Texas court to recognize – and dissolve – something that does not legally exist.” But Schulte said the issue is about divorce, not gay marriage. “That’s not what we’re talking about here. They want to get divorced just like a straight couple,” he said.

Proposition 8 would eliminate fundamental rights for a group of Californians. It’s unfair and it’s wrong. Fiction: Prop 8 doesn’t discriminate against gay people. Fact: Prop 8 is simple: it eliminates the rights for same-sex couples to marry. Prop 8 would deny equal protections and write discrimination against one group of people—lesbian and gay people—into our state constitution.

By 365gayNewscenterStaff01.23.200911:21amEST(Tampa, Florida)A proposalthat could have led to health benefits for the domestic partners of Hillsborough County employees has been flatly rejected. Send/ShareAdd CommentOpenly gaycommissioner Kevin Beckner proposed a motion calling for a study into the feasibility of the benefits. Beckner, who was elected in November, said he proposed the idea now because the county is in the process of taking bids for employee health insurance. That process happens only once every four years.Beckner is the first openly gay politician to win office in the conservative county;during the campaign pledged he would not use the office to advocate for LGBT issues. When he proposed the benefits plan, some in his district accused him of breaking that pledge. In 2005,Hillsborough County made national headlines when commissioners passed an ordinance barring the county government from any acknowledgment of Gay Pride, and a second ordinance making it virtually impossible to repeal the first one. While LGBT pride observances were not banned in the county, the ordinances blocked the government from any involvement, support or promotion. Beckner’s benefits proposal would have covered same-sex couples and unmarried opposite-sex couples. It was defeated on a 5-2 vote. Before the vote,Beckner told commissioners that he hoped acceptance of the plan would show that the county had become more inclusive.“By making this small policy change”,he said,“we will send a message to the world that we are evolving into a more inclusive community,”he said. But Commissioner Jim Norman accused Beckner of trying to blur the distinction between marriage and gay unions.“I believe that family benefits should be between a husband and wife,”Norman said.“You draw the line somewhere and that’s where I draw the line.”One commissioner said the proposal would be economically crippling.“We’re simply not in a financial position to increase benefits at this time,” said Commissioner Ken Hagan.

British soccer fans banned for homophobic, racist chants
By The Canadian Press 01.23.2009 3:31pm EST (Portsmouth, England) Four fans have been banned from soccer games for three years after pleading guilty to yelling indecent chants at Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell during a game against Tottenham, which was marred by racist and homophobic crowd behavior.Send / ShareAdd CommentSeven more pleaded not guilty when the case opened at Portsmouth Magistrates Court, relating to Pompey’s 2-0 win on Sept. 28 at Fratton Park. The former England defender infuriated Spurs supporters by leaving for north London rival Arsenal seven years ago. Campbell has been at Portsmouth since leaving the Gunners in August 2006 and has been regularly jeered by Tottenham fans, the latest incidents being at Sunday’s 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane. At September’s game, police identified fans that allegedly aimed indecent, racist or homophobic chants at Campbell. “There were families present, very young children. We also heard from witnesses who found the behavior disgusting and embarrassing,” magistrate Susan Waddle told the four men who admitted the charge. She also fined them 370 pounds ($500 US) and ordered them to pay 120 pounds ($162 US) in legal costs. “No doubt you are upright members of society, but in there you acted like animals, like a herd,” Waddle said. “This was well-rehearsed, everyone was in sync, everyone knew the words, it was not something that just happened on the day. “Whether or not Mr. Campbell was offended, decent members of the public found this very offensive and so did the (court). Anyone who indulges in this disgusting behavior will be dealt with very severely by the courts.” The four who pleaded guilty to indecent chanting were Keith Stevens, 54, from Hailsham, south east England; Richard Gibbs, 36, from Wokingham, west of London; Stuart Turner, 34, Telford, central England, and Oliver Sylvester, 28, from the south coast city of Southampton.

California bar associations join call to invalidate Prop 8
By 365gay Newscenter Staff 01.16.2009 2:11pm EST (San Francisco, California) Forty bar associations and legal groups across the country - including the San Francisco and Los Angeles County Bar Associations - have called on the California Supreme Court to invalidate Proposition 8, the voter approved measure that bans same-sex marriage in the state. Send / ShareAdd CommentThe groups have filed a friend of the court brief saying the proposition violates the constitutional principles of equal protection and fundamental rights. “Proposition 8 would shatter existing principles of equal protection and fundamental rights, as well as the judicial branch’s role as final arbiter of these constitutional guarantees,” said Russell S. Roeca, President of the Bar Association of San Francisco in a statement. “It constitutes a revision of the Constitution. As such, it may not be enacted by a simple majority of the voters.” Los Angeles County Bar Association President Danette Meyers said that the question of whether a protected class may be barred from enjoying a fundamental right based on a bare majority vote is a matter of statewide importance. “The implications of the question are wide-reaching; if the majority can relegate disfavored minorities to second class citizenship via the initiative process, no fundamental rights are safe,” said Meyers.

New bid to establish Milk holiday
By 365gay Newscenter Staff 01.22.2009 10:39am EST (Sacramento, California) State Sen. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) is hoping positive publicity over the movie “Milk” encourages Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) to support legislation declaring May 22 as Harvey Milk Day. Send / Share Add Comment Leno was elected to the California Senate in November. Last year as a member of the Assembly, he pushed through a similar bill only to have it vetoed by the governor. It passed the legislature with little difficulty, but Schwarzenegger said that while he respected the measure’s intent, he thought Milk’s “contributions should continue to be recognized at the local level.” May 22 is Milk’s birth date. He would have been 79 this year. Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977 and shot to death a year later, along with Mayor George Moscone, by former supervisor Dan White. White was convicted of manslaughter, and served a little more than three years in prison before committing suicide. In the years since his death, Milk has become one of the most recognizable martyrs of the gay rights movement. The film Milk starring Sean Penn garnered kudos and is considered likely to be nominated for a number of Academy Awards. Leno’s bill is one of two pro-gay bills to come up this session of the California legislature. The other would protect home ownership for same-sex couples. The bill, filed by Assembly Member Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles), would allow two people, including same-sex couples, who co-own a home together to avoid an unfair property tax increase upon the death of one of the co-owners. The bill is nearly identical to a measure that passed the legislature last year but was vetoed by Gov. Schwarzenegger. The governor has not said if he will support either bill this time around. |

Appeals court upholds NYS partner ruling
By 365gay Newscenter Staff 01.23.2009 8:48am EST (Albany New York) A mid-level New York State appeals court has upheld a policy granting benefits to the same-sex married partners of state workers. Send / ShareAdd CommentThe Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative Christian legal practice, argued that then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer acted illegally when he directed the Department of Civil Service in 2007 to extended health benefits to those spouses. The ADF, which fights LGBT issues across the country, is representing four upstate taxpayers. Attorney Brian Raum told the five justices of the Appellate Division that Spitzer had usurped the authority of the legislature. Raum pointed to the 2006 ruling by New York’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, that same-sex couples do not have a constitutional right to marry but that the issue of same-sex marriage could be taken up by the Legislature. The DCS was represented at the hearing by the state Attorney General’s Office.

David Medina joins list of LGBT people slated to join Obama Administration
January 15, 2009 Chris Johnson The Washington Blade reported on Tuesday that David Medina, a member of HRC's public policy committee, has been selected to serve as deputy chief of staff to Michelle Obama. This latest news of Medina's likely appointment continues the buzz of recent days around President-elect Obama's transition team plans to place LGBT people in key posts in his administration. Earlier this week, the Washington Post's Al Kamen noted that National Zoo director John Berry is slated to become director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), putting him in position to manage the largest civilian workforce in our country. Additionally, on January 8, the Advocate reported that Brian Bond will be named deputy director of the Office of Public Liaison. HRC learned the next day that Fred Hochberg, an openly gay man and former head of the Small Business Administration, will be named chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. New York legislature gains new pro-equality leadership
January 08, 2009 Chris Johnson Following two months of negotiations, New York’s State Senate Democrats have chosen Senator Malcolm Smith to lead the new majority that Democrats won last November. Chris Edelson, HRC's state legislative director, talks more about the New York election results in this guest post: Last November’s election results hit us hard on the issue of marriage equality. One piece of good news, however, came from New York, where control of the Senate changed hands. That was good news because the marriage equality bill that passed the New York Assembly by an 85-61 margin in June 2007 had gone nowhere in the old Senate, which was controlled by a majority leader who was a committed opponent of equality and declared the marriage equality bill “dead on arrival”. We were thrilled by the election results in New York, and proud of the work we did on key campaigns, but we have anxiously followed negotiations over the past two months regarding leadership of the new majority. Sen. Malcolm Smith (pictured), a supporter of marriage equality, emerged as the leading candidate to become the new Senate President and Majority Leader, but members of his party tried to force him to agree that, if he became leader, the Senate would not vote on a marriage equality bill this year.

So when are you going to realize that America isn't interested in your gay agenda? This is the second time that gay marriage had been voted down, so what do you plan on doing? No one cared about your gay day and no one cares about your behaviors. If you want to be gay, be gay, but don't try to tell me that I have to think that it's acceptable, this is still America and I have as much right to be intolerant to the gay agenda as you have to be gay in the first place and I'm THE MAJORITY OF AMERICA! I find it funny that the president elect doesn't even want gay marriage, but for some reason you think that because you practice cunnilingus or sodomy that you are a race... you're not. You have a behavior not an ethnicity. I think you should settle with civil unions with the same rights and realize that marriage was instituted by the Bible and I'm pretty sure most of you don't care about the Bible in the first place.
P.S Don;t try to tag me as a racist, I have a degree in acting with an emphasis on musical theater and I've had a lot of dear gay friends.

The point is that gay people have been receiving nothing but discrimination since the 1950s when it cam to laws, religion, and personal belief; (and I’m shire it was even before that date) you need to know you’re history about gay people before anyone can say anything about us, I suggest reading a book or looking up some of the asinine laws on that subject. The original point of gay pride is to protest for gay rights and to talk about it as well (i.e. the stonewall riots); today it’s that point and even more and it will be like that for a long time, the only “thing that stands in are way” of equality, rights, and fairness are the straights that hate use and the part time supporter's, ether you’re with us or not, like all walls they brake down, so don’t get use to being in are way.
Remember religion is a set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader and a cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion, not fact, religion is personal not logical and intelligent. Fact, prop h8te is discriminating to a type of a person, so said the law in May 2008, gay people are on the other side of the fence and not side by side on cumin ground like it should be. Like the commercial said “stop the hate”. No asinine comments thank you. |

You know, as a lesbian, I am sick and tired of all the stupid whining by some in the gay community. And for those of you who really think "gay is the new black" get a clue. It is absolutely ridiculous. I moved out of California 8 years ago to escape from all the liberal insanity that is the "Peoples Republic of California". I do think that homosexuals deserve the same rights as married heterosexual couples. But I don't care if it's called marriage or not. Call it Disneyland for all I care, just as long as we have equal rights. But having said that, I also respect the religious community and their point of view. I don't believe that people of faith are bigoted and hate mongers. Frankly the hate I see comes mostly from the gay community. When did "Tolerance" mutate into this militant crap. Knock it off and instead of pointing fingers at the majority who disagree with you, how about working to make some positive contributions to society for a change. Start with your own community. How about closing the "Bath houses". That would be a good first step. You can't keep engaging in selfish, destructive behavior that adversely affects society, and then turn around and expect the masses to embrace your sick lifestyle. Clean it up, and maybe people will start listening. This kind of crap brings all of us down. Just like the stupid Gay "Pride" Parades. Please. What exactly is there to be proud of at one of these stellar events? It's embarrassing. And you seriously wonder why we are having issues with acceptance from people? Get a clue. The gay community puts this crap out there, and then whines about homophobia. How incredibly dumb. So call in gay. It won't matter. The best thing we can do is work on cleaning up our own house, then at least we'd have some kind of foundation to stand on, and something to really be "proud" of. Thanks for the forum.

When leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) took a prominent role in ending marriage equality in California, I felt compelled to act. As a gay resident of Utah who grew up in a conservative Mormon family, I have seen the LDS Church divide the community and even families every day. I became active in and donated a million dollars to the "No on 8" campaign to help spread the truth in the face of a deceptive campaign funded largely by members of the LDS Church. I'm writing you today because LDS (Mormon) leaders have been trying to deflect criticism by insisting that they're not "anti-gay" or opposed to civil unions, domestic partnerships and other LGBT rights – just marriage equality.

Tolerance goes both ways! So does bigotry! Bigotry toward gays! Bigotry toward christians/religious persons! Isn't there SOMEONE other than me, who thinks maybe civility and compromise is a better route? Don't we all live amonst each other? Shouldn't we strive more to be getting along, and finding equality for ALL......for BOTH sides of the issue?
There has been SO much hate demonstrated by both sides of this issue...it's just keeping us all stuck! ? NO? Yes?? Come on....isn't there anyone out there that thinks striving for tolerance of each other is a better way than the direction we are headed? The divide will only get wider if we follow this course! I'm gay. I have a partner I love and will be with till death and beyond....we want the same rights as anybody else! We're also Christians, and very committed to our faith. Where do we fall? Which side claims us? We want the same...FOR BOTH SIDES! The media and internet have done a wonderful job at keeping the anger and hype alive! Both sides can't even see beyond their own points of view! If we fail to look out for the other person. If we fail to keep civility and respect in check...we are headed for catastrophe as a people...as a nation! The opportunity is now! Can it begin?........PLEASE!!! Any sincere suggestions and converstion only please!!

For thousands of years VOTERS were defined as MEN ONLY. Historically VOTERS in the USA were defined as WHITE MEN ONLY! Now I hear they changed the definition of VOTER to include FEMALES and PEOPLE of different RACES. That's OUTRAGEOUS. These WOMEN and PEOPLE of COLOR would then HAVE THE POWER to start REDEFINING our very existence, BLASPHEMY!
