Maybe if Gays SHUT UP

OK, here's the deal. The gays want super-equality. You want rights not even given to a man married to a woman. Have gay people ever considered just being gay, doing your thing, and shutting the fuck up? When you do the whole loud "I'm gay and I'm loud and proud and I'm going to shove it in your face till you accept me" thing, two things happen. ((( #1 ))), MOST OF SOCIETY ARE REPULSED. Some of you dance in the street in thongs. You have sex in the street in San Fran at the gay festival. You say inappropriate over-sexualized things to co-workers and bystanders. Because you live in a world that is over-sexualized and your identity revolves around your sexuality, you think everyone is like that or needs to be more like that. Just be normal and do what you want in your own bedroom like everyone else, and things will start going better for you. ((( #2 ))) YOU COME ACROSS AS NEEDY AND INSECURE. Let's face it, when you all get together and march and hold signs that say "I'm SO proud to be gay", it REEKS of you over-trying to convince yourselves. We all know there is shame involved in homosexuality- why was it hard for most of you to tell your parents? Because of the shame. The rest of us don't believe you're proud of it....period. But when you shout about how proud you are, it's like the insecure person in the office who is always trumpeting their achievements to anyone who will listen because they're insecure about their true ability and they're overcompensating and trying to cover their insecurity by boasting, etc.....EVERYONE sees through it and they appear MORE pathetic and insecure than if they just did their job and kept a low profile. The people who know what they're doing don't have to run their mouth about it. Those of us who have no shame about our sexuality don't have to run their mouths constantly about it. MAYBE you should stop bashing the rest of over the head with it!! 84  out of 283 found this valuable. Do you?

The three of you have obviously never even met a gay man. You're basing that enitrely off of a disgusting stereotype. And outside of that, do you have any idea where gay pride parades and the "I'm gay and I'm proud and I'm going to shove it in your face tll you accept me" atitude came from? It's from countless years of being forced into closet by a bigoted majority. People are afraid of telling their parents because of their parents' socialized shame. You have a lot of learning to do. Why don't you go take a walk into any movie theatre/turn on any tv/read any magazine/look at any advertisement/go to any club or bar and then tell me that you heterosexuals don't shove their sexuality in my face. you stupid fuck. you don't have any fucking idea what you're talking about. YOU are the one who looks insecure when you go so far out of your way to write a bullshit rant full of uninformed opinions on a forum for a peaceful organized protest. YOU FUCKING IGNORANT PIECE OF SHIT. 27  out of 42 found this valuable. Do you?

Wow. Your tolerance for others who don't exactly agree with you is so refreshing. Aren't fags always talking about tolerance? I guess it only means tolerance for you and your boyfriend and people who agree with you.

As a gay man, I would agree with the person who wrote this if it weren't for the fact that regardless of how you treat your sexuality (privately or publicly) it should have nothing to do with your rights as an individual in this country. It's true, there are many gays who do feel inferior about who and what they are, But only because they were told to believe it for years and years by others who assumed they the right to tell people what was normal and what was not in our society (sound like anyone you know?). 11  out of 12 found this valuable. Don't try and pull that semantic bullshit. There's a difference between tolerance and resignation in the face of ignorance and hate. If he had established any modicum of rationality or logic in his arguments, perhaps I would have spent more time taking into consideration his feelings. Gay here... I have to agree with what you just said, mainly because I think a lot of it is (damn right) true... Just hits me to the bones... But you also have to consider, that the reason why we were in hiding is because we DID (and still do) feel inferior. The society has a norm on what a guy/girl should be and what other things are "perfect", and of course you cannot blame us to feel that even even if we shout to the world how gay we are/ Yes, maybe we can't accept the fact that we lost on Nov. 4 that's why we're trying to make ourselves feel better, but if Proposition 8 did not pass, what would you do??? I think you would do the same thing: Make yourself feel better by trying to forget about loss and hurt. Yes, we are pretty loud about it. We're pretty loud about our sexuality and I think you're right when you say we should keep it private... And maybe that's what we should change ourselves. But what about other people who bash us? Who look on us head to toe just because we're not like them? People who are the root cause why we feel small? Shouldn't they change as well? We can keep listing things of what should and should be. This is really complicated. But your opinion is greatly appreciated. I just hope everyone listens and understands.... 9  out of 12 found this valuable. Do you?

Listen Man, just be gay, and everyone will get along fine. No need to yell and protest. Most gay people dont even want to be married. Its just about taking away the power from the religious right.

18. ADDING TO Maybe if Gays SHUT UP
Dec 9 2008, 5:43 PM EST | Post edited: Dec 9 2008, 5:43 PM EST
I'm the author of the original post. There is nothing hateful in it. I'm only suggesting that you could more effectively push your agenda of being accepted by toning it down. I have quite a few gay friends and have worked with many gays. In my experience, most of them say things that would not be tolerated if said by a hetero. In the politically correct arena, gays are a protected class. They can say or do just about whatever they want, and if you disagree, you are labeled as hateful or backwards and un-educated. It's lazy and intellectually disingenuous to fall back on those particular characterizations when dealing with someone who doesn't agree with you. Are homosexuals actually under the impression that the majority of California voters are hateful, backwards, and un-educated? It's not true.
What is true is that most gays see morality and rules in highly subjective (i.e. non black-and white) terms. Therefore, the fact that prop 8 was approved in a free and fair election process seems more "relative" to them than most others. In a democracy, when the majority votes in a fair public election, the results are generally viewed as black and white. After all, nobody is saying that we should go to the courts and try to get them to overturn Obama's presidential win. That would immediately marginalize any individual or group trying to do that. But not the gays. Yet, when voters made the decision to support prop 8 (notice I'm not saying I supported it), gays hit the street and showed more vitriol and hate than their adversaries. This only confirms to their adversaries that they were justified in their decision to deny rights to gays. You can call me hateful or whatever, but I'm not. I'm just telling you how most people see it, but are afraid to speak up for fear that the Orwellian hate police might show up and throw them in jail. You would think the gays would be most opposed to such censorship, but they are not

Thanks for your honest reply. What about people who bash you? Let the excellence of your work, your life, and your virtues be your protest. If gays keep screaming, they will continue to polarize the population, most of whom will be turned off and polarized toward the negative. I think the prop 8 vote is evidence of that, and I would guess that if there was another prop 8 vote next week and the same people were allowed to vote, it would win by a greater margin because of the way gays have reacted. They have come off as vengeful, whiny, and disregarding of the American democratic process.
