Umm....NO!

Being Gay is a CHOICE, and a choice that is highly overrated. No one was born that way! Simple as that. I was not born with the ability to tie my own shoe, feed myself, or speak, so how can you tell me that one was born with a same-sex attraction? You can't. Case CLOSED! Damone. Probably a waste of time to post this because everyone has their opinion and since you have different desires, it will be harder for you be empathetic, but I can tell you that I personally tried to choose to be straight but my body wasn't having it. And also, If it’s a choice, why would it be rated high? (your comment "highly overrated") I don’t think being persecuted and killed in some countries and looked down upon by society or your own family is something that is chosen. I am not saying born with, but i am saying that i didn’t choose it, I chose to accept it. Your examples of learned activities does not help. Sex drive is not something you need to be taught (much like hunger), it’s something your body and brain will naturally figure out aka instinctual drives (you can do some research on the topic if you want to understand human/animal psychology better). Now, you can choose to act out on the drive, but I can tell you it’s hard to have sex when you can't maintain an erection with a sex partner you are uninterested in. I guess with technology today, i could deny what my brain is telling me but that seems more unnatural. My opinion, a "mis-wiring" occurred that leads to genetic tendencies. And seeing how its even found in the animal kingdom, I don’t think it’s so "scary" anyway. And why is it case closed again? Is there not even the SLIGHTEST chance that you can be mistaken on something that you have had no interest in? And what are the consequences of you being mistaken?

"Noone anywhere has ever proven the existence of a "gay gene."Actually, they have. The exact same proportion of theanimal kingdom is homosexual as human beings. Check the APA website. And as for the "you are all mentally ill part...I assume you then are full of hate and judgement. If you happen to be religious, those are bigger sins than being gay. 9 out of 14 found this valuable. "Being Gay is a CHOICE, and a choice that is highly overrated.first of all you dont even know. you may think that we "choose" to be gay, but how do you know? your not gay are you? you have always been attracted to women. I have tried to act straight as much as i could since i was 7 ive been intrested in men. You were most likely brought up to think straight and to marry to a female and reproduce, werent you? I was brought up to think that if i was gay i was going to hell and it would be a life of descrimination and hate, but so far, since ive been out (about 5 years) the only hate ive seen against gays is here, and down south. My family may not approve of my lifestyle but at least they dont hate me, talk bad about me, bring me down, or even disown me. to bad you low lifes cant be this way. 5 out of 8 found this valuable. Saying that "being gay is a choice" is like saying that being straight is a choice. I remember being in high school and being mentally abused by boyfriends, wishing that I could be a lesbian, because my girlfriends were so much nicer to me. But alas, I am attracted to men. You don't choose who to love, it just happens. Anyone who thinks differently has never fallen madly in love with someone.

I have been reading all of this negativity and this one quote made me smile. You are the backbone of our community. I hope that you have found or will find the man that you are seeking. He is out there, looking for you. Bless you and happy holidays. You just made one little lesbian's day a whole lot brighter. I am ending my posts on this note. 7 out of 9 found this valuable. "No one was born that way! Simple as that. You're comparing someone's sexual orientation with your ability to tie your shoes?!?! WOW. Talk about comparing apples to stop signs and calling them both red. Following your illogical logic, are you saying that someone taught you to be straight? And that Christians should start holding the parents of gay people responsible for their orientation the same way that parents can be held responsible if their minor child breaks the law? 6 out of 9 found this valuable. "Being Gay is a CHOICE, and a choice that is highly overrated.I'm thinking that if you're ever expecting to have any sort of succesful acting career, your very narrow-minded and fallacious assumption that being gay is a choice will surely close many doors for you, dawg... You're going to run into a lot of homosexuals along the way - that is if you ever make it. 6 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

Ummm....NO! needs to do some serious studying, and lay off the bible for a while, and think for him/herSELF. Study some real science, biology, that sort of thing. Just to add to your homophobic discomfort, you DO know, don't you, that many species of animals also have same-sex relationships? I wonder who taught THEM........... Lighten up, accept life as it REALLY is, and stop concerning yourself with what doesn't in the least bit affect you personally. 8 out of 11 found this valuable. Do you? |

So..I guess you are equally attracted to every female equally. You have absolutely no preference based on physical appearance. So if you honestly don't naturally find any female more attractive than the others...I have some ocean front property in Arizona for you to consider.

i gotta like the closed-mindedness you're able to hold. not only is that kind of statement out of place and unnecessary, but you're making unrealistic connections. If you had set up a basis for comparison between shoe-tying and homosexuality, it would be a little more understandable. Also, you'd want to be more specific with the example of speech. One could easily argue that while one is not born fluent in a language, people do instinctively attempt at expressing need and emotion through sound from infancy. It is not speech that is learned, but forms of speech more easily recognized by those around them.A great amount of argument is put into discussion of whether or not sexuality is a choice. I think that a great deal of it is genetic, and for many, it's not a choice. But in truth, i think more people would be able to make the choice than would be willing to admit it. Throughout history, the emphasis on sexuality has changed more than once. societies have valued homosexuality, believing that the only true love was that held between two men. While the time span between these shifts makes it difficult to say that it is the result of a change in genetics, it could easily be said that sexuality functions in much the same way that the political spectrum does. The views of people often limit themselves to being strictly conservative, or strictly liberal. The moderates, however, often side with whichever party the majority of their immediate surroundings side with. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I'm sorry, but I don't choose who I fall in love with. If I could control my feelings, I wouldn't be in love with my friend, who is male. I am a female. Straight. So, as that is HETEROSEXUAL, I can't control who I fall in love with--what makes you declare that homosexual can? And if they can, what makes you think they would? I know a lot of gay people who wish they weren't because of all the harassment from people like you. 8 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

Even if I agreed with you, and I don't agree that being gay is a choice, so what?! People choose their religion and their rights are protected, people choose to use their free speech rights and their rights are protected, people choose to vote and their rights are protected, and the list goes on and on. Your argument holds no water whatsoever.
